Which is the easiest way to immigrate to Canada?

There are several ways an applicant can move to Canada. Some of the ways are permanent for immigration while the others are temporary. Depending on your reason for immigration you can choose the pathway you wish to take for relocation.

For your ease the pathways listed below offer information on Canada Immigration –

Work Permit Visa:

Work Permit is a temporary visa which is given for two years and it is provided to the Foreign National to work for a Canadian employer. To be selected for the work permit the candidate should have the occupation listed in the National Occupation Classification (NOC) list. This visa can also be extended with conditions attached as per the requirements of the employer and credentials of the foreign nationals. There are two types of work Permit visa for Canada – Open Work Permit and Closed Work Permit. The Open Work Permit provides the candidate with the right to choose the employer for immigration while the closed work permit doesn’t give the right to chance employers.

Express Entry Program:

The easiest and fastest way to move to Canada is through the Express Entry program. It is an online portal for foreign skilled worker’s selection under Permanent Residency (PR) status in Canada. The applicants who apply for the PR visa under the express entry can get the ITA status in only 6 to 12 months.

There are three streams through which the applicant can relocate –

The Federal Skilled Workers Program (FSWP) stream is the most popular sub stream under the express entry and it is for those applicants who have never lived in Canada before. This is also called the 67-point calculator because it is a point-based selection system where the candidates who achieve 67 points out of 100 are selected under the program. The scores of the applicants are calculated on the factors of age, language, skills in work and education.

The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) is for applicants who are in the trade occupation, such as Truck drivers and cooks. To be selected under this category the applicants are not expected to have an educational qualification.

Finally, the last stream Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is for applicants who have already lived in Canada and have work experience of Canadian occupation.

Recently, in May 2023, The IRCC has also started the category based Express Entry Draws alongside the regular Express Entry draws to select the applicants whose occupations are in high demand. The six categories of selection of applicants are -

Business Class Immigration:

The business class category is for entrepreneurs who are planning to start a life in Canada. There are three different ways you can attain permanent residency in Canada: investors, entrepreneurs and self-employed persons. Under the Investors category net worth needed is CAD 800,000 and have to make sure that you can invest C$400,000 in Canadian economy. For that, you can either apply through Startup visa or provincial business immigration programs.

Provincial Immigration:

Canada provides the right to its provinces to invite skilled people and nominate them for moving to the country based on the occupation in-demand and labor market requirement in that province. There are two main ways of attaining provincial nomination either the candidate can make use of express entry linked model, or they can directly apply to the province for selection. Every province has its own eligibility model and once selected the candidate is eligible for 600 bonus points of provincial nomination in the Express Entry immigration model.

The popular channels of immigration through the Provincial Nomination Program (PNP) are –

Quebec Province Immigration Program:

The Province of Quebec is the French cultural epitome of Canada. This province is independent in selection of immigrant and has a two-step model where first the province will select the applicant then the applicant will have to gain federal government approval before relocation. So, if you are planning to settle in Quebec, then you might have to undergo a separate evaluation which includes categories:

  • Permanent Skilled workers
  • Businesspeople
  • Students – permanent immigration
  • Temporary workers – permanent immigration
  • Families
  • Sponsored refugees

AIPP was started to promote the Atlantic Provinces in Canada for immigration. The provinces that are part of this program are Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick. This is an employer driven stream as for the AIPP there is a mandatory condition of a valid job offer from a designated employer.

The Atlantic immigration pilot program has three streams and each stream has its selection model -

  • International Graduate Program
  • Atlantic High Skilled Program
  • Atlantic Intermediate Skilled program

Family Sponsorship:

The Family Sponsorship stream is for those applicants who wish to call their families to Canada. They need to be Canadian citizens or those with the permanent resident visas is they want their family to come to Canada. It is also highly important that the applicant is financially stable to meet the demands of the sponsored individual upon immigration. This is not a point-based immigration program and the idea behind the Family Sponsorship stream is to reunite families.

Once sponsored family members get the permanent resident status then they have the right to live, work, and study in Canada and they can enjoy the same opportunities and benefits as other permanent residents.
